Romanza project

An effort to translate all the songs on Andrea Bocelli's Romanza from the original Italian directly into Esperanto. Basically because I want to master Italian a little better — and it's a good exercise in Esperanto. I'm also curious as to what the songs are about. I will not try to keep any rythm or meter in the translations, but I will try to retain as much of the word order and structure as I think is esthetically possible.

I honestly don't know what the rules are about reproducing the lyrics of someone's copyrighted works without explicit permission. I hope it's ok — if not, please let me know. In any event, I mean no harm.

E chiove

(Kaj pluvas)

I found the text at lyricsdepot. There seems to be something wrong with a few letters, which have become question marks instead. I checked the song on a few other lyrics sites: same problem. This requires further investigation.

Comm'?stretta 'sta via, Kiom mallarĝa estas la strato How narrow this street is,
?'ggente nun ce cape, la homoj ne apartenas the people do not fit in,
se fa 'na prucessione, ili formas procesion they form a procession
ce cammina chianu chianu. progresantan malrapide, malrapide. that progresses very slowly.
Nun ?muorto nisciuno, Neniu estas morta No one has died,
nun ?'o santo e nisciuno, estas nenies sanktulo it is nobody's saint,
nun se sente 'na voce voĉo ne aŭdiĝas you cannot hear a voice,
e nun sona 'na campana. neniu sonorilo sonas no bell tolls.
E intanto 'o core aspetta Kaj samtempe la koro atendas Meanwhile the heart waits
ca s'arapene 'e funtane. la ludadon de la fontano. for the fountain to play.

E chiove, n'capo 'e criature, And it rains on childrens' heads,
vulesse arravugli? I would like to capture
'sta luna cu'na funa this moon with a rope
pe m'a purt?luntano, to take it with me far away,
pe m'a purt?luntano to take it with me far away,
add?'o cielo che ?cielo where the sky is sky
nun se fa mai scuro. and never darkens.
E chiove, n'terra e nisciuno, And it rains in nobody's land.
vulesse cummann?pe spremmere I would like to be in charge,
'e dulure to sqeeze the pain
dinto a 'stu ciummo amaro, into this bitter river
ca nun canosce 'o mare, that has never met the sea
pecch?'o mare ?luntano because the sea is far away
eppure sta vicino. and yet is near.

Comm'?'llonga 'sta via, How long this road is,
pecch?nun sponta mai, why does it never end;
se perde dinte 'pprete, it loses itself among the stones,
'mmiezo 'e carte arravugliate, in the middle of maps,
sotto 'a l'evera 'e muro under the grass of the wall
ca s'arrampeca e 'ggiura, which climbs and swears
'e jastemme de' juorne, and curses during the day
'e serate senza pane. and in the evening without sustenance.
E intanto 'o core aspetta Meanwhile the heart waits
ca s'arapene 'e funtane. for the fountains to play.
