Project planner
From Carls wiki
I want to make a project planner. Maybe. Let's first see if there exists something like what I want.

What I want

Features
- Checkpoints (starts, stops and crossroads) which can be tied to tests or internal/external conditions
- Dependencies between checkpoints
- Ways of indicating progress within a task
- Upholding of time constraint: a dependency may never go backwards in time
- Complete history of every update ever made to the chart, easy access to previous time slices
- Laid-back naming of things, automatic color-coding
- Maybe some suggestion feature which can answer questions like "I'm late, what should I do?" or "I don't know what to do next, what should I try?"
What exists
Gantt
He's just zis guy, ya know...
- Henry Gantt
- He's got his own prize, too
- Gantt chart
Existing programs
Perhaps indicative that the first section of that article is "Problems with project management software".
It's Microsoft, so it must be good. Right?
- Planner, the project formerly known as Mr. Project
- Planner home page
Concepts and discussions
- Dependency
- Project network
- Work breakdown structure
- Critical path and Critical chain, oh my!
- Dependancy injection, or IoC (Inversion of Control)
- Project planning
- Extreme project management
Those were the ones I found in a shallow search. Of course, there's also the list of project management topics.
- This guy, Edward Tufte, gets a lot of things right, albeit at length.
Seems like everyone is "just this guy" today. :) — Carl 08:09, 25 May 2005 (CEST)
