| Hodiaŭ matene Ralf Leo Tubson atingis sian dudekkvinan jaron, kaj laŭ la leĝaro de la Skandinava Respubliko li rajtis resti ankoraŭ fraŭlo nur tri tagojn -- lasta tempolimo, post kiu la leĝo punas severe kaj neripareble. Kiel en la tuta civilizita mondo, ankaŭ en la Skandinava Respubliko (formita en 1946 per memvola unio de la tri regnoj: sveda, norvega kaj finna) la leĝo devigas ĉiun civitanon al edziĝo antaŭ 25-a jaro. Post tiu limtempo kaj suplementaj tri tagoj la malobea fraŭlo estas jam konsiderata kiel krimulo, kaj kontraŭ li tiam agas tuta serio da policaj procedoj. | This morning, Ralf Leo Tubson turned twenty-five; and according to the law of the Scandinavian Republic, he could remain a bachelor only another three days -- the final deadline, after which the law punishes severely and irrevocably. As in all the civilized world, here in the Scandinavian Republic (formed in 1946 by the merger of the three countries: Sweden, Norway, and Finland), the law requires every citizen to marry by the age of 25. After this time and a three day grace period, the offending bachelor is then considered a criminal, against whom a whole series of police tactics are brought to bear. |

| Alta 172 centimetrojn, blonda, nelarĝa en ŝultroj, Tubson serĉis en la rubriko de mezaltaj brunaj fianĉemulinoj ion allogan. La Bulteno ja prezentis riĉan kosmopolitan kolekton da gefianĉemuloj, klasitaj laŭ landoj, rasoj, korpaj ecoj, profesioj, aĝoj kaj aliaj karakterizaj trajtoj. Substrekinte tri nomojn, Tubson mendis la komunikojn per senfadena parolilo. The Bulletin presented a rich cosmopolitic collection of fiancé(e) aspirants, classified by country, race, bodily features, profession, age and other characteristic traits. After underlining three names, Tubson requested communication by wireless speaker. Some minutes later, responses arrived: telemeetings with the three available women were precisely arranged for different times tomorrow. A telemeeting consisted of remote wireless synchronized audio and video, achieved by a simple device, which saves a great deal of time formerly spent travelling with a danger of accidents. |

| Kaj antaŭ ĉiu el ili aperis sur ekraneto movema kolora bildo: parolanta vizaĝo apud sonofunelo, parto de la korpo, ĉirkaŭaj mebloj. La juna hispanino, kvankam bele vestita, ĝentile ridetanta, tamen tuj ne plaĉis al Tubson, pro la nenaturaj afekt-manieroj, troesprimoplenaj eĉ por la sunvarma hispana lando. Post kelkaj sensignifaj frazoj la fraŭlo dankis la hispaninon, kaj fermis la aparaton. | And in front of them both, an animated color picture appeared on a little screen: a speaking face next to a loudspeaker, part of the body, surrounding furniture. Though the young Spanish woman was beautifully dressed and smiling gently, Tubson disliked her at once, because of the unnatural affective manners, too expressive even for sunny Spain. After a couple of unsignificant phrases the bachelor thanked the Spaniard, and closed the device. |

| Tria telerenkonto kun rusino ne kontentigis la fraŭlon, kaj li tuj fermis la aparaton. La konsentita promeneto al Egipto ja tute kontentigis lin, jam revantan pri la baldaŭa vespera rendevuo. Helikoptreo [sic] de Tubson malrapide kaj senbrue alteriĝis sur la avenuo, en loko rezervita por flugantoj. | The third telemeeting with a Russian woman didn't satisfy the bachelor, and he shut off the device at once. He was quite content with the agreed-upon trip to Egypt, already dreaming about the soon-coming evening rendezvous. Two hours of quiet flight, and there was the aeroplace of Karnak, and the 43rd avenue. Tubson's helicopter landed on the avenue slowly and without noise, in the location reserved for flyers. |

Flowers of many colors surrounded him. Birds freely flew from one bush to another, their song pleasingly harmonizing with the chirping of crickets and cicadas. |

La blunigraj nature frizaj haroj ondumis ĝis la ŝultroj. | "Good evening, mister Ralf, ..." a melodious voice was suddenly saying, and Tubson, turning his head, saw a not very tall but wide silhouette of a brown-skinned girl, dressed in a pink tunic and silk sandals. The blue-black naturally curled hair flowed on down to the shoulders. |

Neither loud conversation, the noise of machinery, nor the pounding of hard shoes onto the public roads, existed any more in this epoch, which was astounded by the past when the half-crazy mankind had found pleasure in noisy flight, the smelly petrol of motors, and in the awkward conditions of a mechanistic excuse for a life. Now, the airflight was merely a practical resource, but not Life's goal, as it had been a half-century earlier. |

The girl suddenly started trembling, and instinctively pressed herself against Tubson, who at first understood nothing... |
| "Tiu estas mia estinta fianĉo, Zul Kamerudo, kiu min obstine sekvas, malgraŭ mia klara rifuzo daŭrigi ian ajn rilatadon kun li... Mi esperas ke vi senkulpigos min pro nekonvena konduto de tiu sinjoro, jam konata laŭ granda nombro de siaj edziĝoj kaj eksedziĝoj. Krome, li pasie ludas je ruleto, jen gajnante, jen pedante monon... Unuvorte mi ne ŝatas lin renkonti, des mal pli rilati aŭ edziĝi kun li..." I hope that you excuse me for the inconvenient behaviour of that man, already known according to a great number by his marriages and past marriages. Also, he passionately plays roulette, sometimes winning, sometimes losing money... In a word, I don't like meeting him, not to mention getting to know him and marrying him..." "Allow me, dear miss, to arrange that matter" answered Tubson quietly, taking a teletalker out of his pocket. |
| Atendante sekvon de la telesonado, la gefianĉemuloj eksidis sur benketon, apud marmora fontano, el kiu ludis freŝa akvoĵeto, falanta sur bluan surfacon de la baseno. Ankaŭ la negro haltis, je dek paŝoj, ŝajnigante ke li ekzamenas foliojn de iu arbeto, sed fakte ĵaluze rigardegante jen la fraŭlon, jen la knabinon... Apenaŭ pasis dek minutoj de tiu malagrabla situacio, kiam aperis viro, oficiale vestita. Tubson tuj leviĝis, aliris la viron, kaj longe interkonsiliĝis kun li. Poste, la gefianĉemuloj trankvile daŭrigis sian promenon, ĉar de nun la negro estis furioza kontraŭ tiu misterulo, kiu lin obstine postsekvis, paŝo post paŝo, silente kaj senhezite. The black man also stopped, at ten steps, pretending he was examining leaves of some small tree, when in fact jealously staring now at the man, now at the woman... Hardly ten minutes had passed of this unpleasant situation, when a man in official dress appeared. Tubson got up at once, went up to the man, and consulted with him for a long time. After that, the two soon-to-be-engaged calmly continued their walk, since from now on the black man was furious about that mysterious fellow, who trailed him incessantly, step by step, ready to make use of an energy weapon for defence, in the event that the black man attacked him. |
| La geedziĝo ilia estis interkonsentita por dimanĉo, post dek tagoj, kiam ĉiuj formalaĵoj kaj preparoj estos finitaj. Atendante, Nelidi kaj Tubson revenis ĉiu al sia hejmo. Plurfoje dum ĉiu tago ili telerenkontis, babilis, projektis pri sia baldaŭa kunvivo. De tempo al tempo Zul Kamerudo insistis telerenkonti kun la knabino kaj kun Tubson, sed ĉiufoje ili energie rifuzis ĉian kontakton. Thus waiting, Nelidi and Tubson each went back to their homes. They telemet many times every day, chatted, made plans about their upcoming life together. From time to time Zul Kamerudo required to telemeet with the girl and with Tubson, but every time they energetically refused all contact. At the end of the week they were surprised to read about the tragical departure of Kamerudo. The black man finally attacked the detective, but in vain, because he defended himself skillfully. Later, the black man suddenly flew to Tubson in an old plane, with noise and foul-smelling petrol, disallowed in Europe. Two police helicopters followed the criminal, who risked the maximum speed trying to escape from the police. Finally he was arrested, and presently the black man is forced to work in a penal colony of Greenland. |
| La edziĝa ceremonio okazis en Oslo, kie la onklo de Tubson bonvolis preni sur sin ĉiujn klopodojn pri la soleno. Unu el la tagmentaj ĝardenoj estis luita por tiu celo. Kiel ĉiuj tiamaj ĝardenoj de la urbego, ĝi estis kovrita per vitra kupolo, por protekti plantojn kontraŭ la venena atmosfero de la urbo. Nur kun gas-maskoj la homoj povis eliri el la domoj, tiom venenita estis la atmosfero de la industria urbo. | The marriage ceremony took place in Oslo, where Tubson's uncle enjoyed being responsible for all preparations for the service. One of the roof gardens was rented to this end. Like all big-city gardens at that time, it was covered by a glass dome, in order to protect plants from the poisonous atmosphere of the city. Everyday life was spent in hermetically covered spaces, the streets of that epoch were tunnels, and the houses were supplied with chemically pure air, transported from a central air facility, like one previously had transported water through the city. Only with gas masks could people leave the houses, that's how poisonous the industrial city atmosphere was. |
| Je la oka matene Nelidi kun Tubson iris al la templo, por ricevi benon de episkopo. Ili apartenis al la sekto de Kosmokredo, speco de mistika panteismo, kiu disvastiĝis preskaŭ same kiel la budhanismo. Je la naŭa komencis matena festeneto en la ĝardeno. Delikataj tropikaj floroj, kreskentaj en porcelanaj vazoj, parfumis la ozonoriĉan aeron, senĉese renovigatan per senbrua ventilado. Laŭ la antikva romana modo, ree populara, la gastoj kaj mastroj duonkuŝis sur divanoj, apud malaltaj tabloj plenaj je bongustaĵoj, kiuj povus miregigi homon de pasinta jarcento, se li povus reveni por ilin vidi kaj gustumi. El vegetaĵoj farita viando estis preparita kiel vera viando de cervo, fazano, perdriko, leporo kaj de aliaj bestoj. Fiŝoj estis kuiritaj el pasto de fazeolo, miksita kun patentita preparaĵo malaja. Gigantaj fragoj, etaj melonoj, parfumaj pomoj, violkoloraj vinberoj -- ludis rolon de trinkaĵo, tiom sukplenaj ili estis. Post la manĝo venis servistaro kaj en tri minutoj forportis ĉiujn tablojn kun pladoj. Komencis muzika parto de la festeno. Unue aŭdiĝis tradicia radiokoncerto, speciale mendita. Poste sur la scenejeto aperis virtuozo, kiu ludis nove-verkitajn melodiojn per la pantorgeno, instrumento pli varia ol malnova piano kaj pli delikata ol violono. Je la tagmezo la festeno finiĝis, la gastoj prezentis siajn donacojn kaj salutojn al la novedziĝintoj, kaj baldaŭ foriris per glitvagonetoj, silente rulantaj tra metalaj tuneloj al diversaj partoj de la subtera urbo, kie nun vivis la loĝantaro. Tie, ĉio estis pura: lumo, aero, ĉambraro, kaj ankaŭ tute silenta, senbrua. En la supera urbo, male, regis bruego, ŝvebis fumo, lumo estis fulgkolora pro la venenaj gasoj kiujn eligis miloj da fabrikoj. En profundo de kvincent metroj regis ĉiama agrabla temperaturo, nedependa de la surfaca klimato. Gigantaj optikaj tuboj kondukis puran sun-lumon el altaj montoj en la subteran vivejon. Aerotuboj provizis ĝin je pura aero. Por retrovi la naturan puran aeron eŭropanoj devus vojaĝi al Afriko aŭ Centra Azio, kaj speciale al zonoj protektataj kontraŭ industria veneno per grandegaj lim-maŝinoj. Tiuj "zonoj de ripozo" estis rezervitaj al privilegiaj vizitantoj, kare pagantaj kaj limigitaj en la tempo de restado. Ĉiu regno havis sian kolonian "zonon" por siaj civitanoj. Tio estis milito per kemiaj kaj elektraj armiloj, science organizata. | At eight o'clock in the morning Nelidi and Tubson went to the temple, to receive blessing from a bishop. They belonged to the sect of Cosmic Belief, a kind of mystic pantheism, that had spread in almost the same way as Buddhism. At nine o'clock a small morning party started in the garden. Delicate tropical flowers, growing in porcelain vases, perfumed the ozone rich air, continuously being replaced by noiseless ventilation. By the antique Roman custom, again popular, the guests and the hosts half-lied on divans, next to low tables full of delicious things, that could amaze a person from the previous century, if he could come back to see and taste them. Meat made of vegetables was prepared as real meat from deer, pheasant, partridge, hare and other animals. Fishes were cooked from bean dough, mixed with a patented Malay mixture. Gigantic strawberries, tiny melons, perfumed apples, violet grapes -- played the role of drinks, so juicy were they. After the meal a group of waiters came and in three minutes removed all the tables with plates. The musical part of the party started. At first there was a traditional radio concert, specially ordered. Then a virtuoso appeared on the little scene, who played newly-written melodies with a "pantorgeno" [?], an instrument more varied than an old piano and more delicate than a violin. At noon the party ended, the guests presented their gifts and greetings to the newlyweds, and soon left in gliding cars, silently rolling through metal tunnels to various parts of the underground city, where the population now lived. There everything was clean: the light, the air, the rooms, and also completely silent, noiseless. En the upper city, on the other hand, noise reigned, fumes floated, the light was soot-colored because of the poisonous gases emitted by thousands of factories. At the depth of five hundred meters reigned a constant pleasant temperature, independent of the surface climate. Gigantic optical tubes led pure sunlight from high mountains into the underground community[?]. Air pipes provided it with clean air. To find the natural pure air again Europeans would have to travel to Africa or Central Asia, and especially to the zones protected against industrial poisoning by huge limit machines. Those "resting zones" were reserved for privileged visitors, paying dearly and staying for a limited time. Every state had its own colony "zone" for its citizens. The black race in Africa was completely civilized. Already in 1970 they were educated through a common effort by all white-race states. Only some hundred living wild specimens of those colored races still existed in scientific institutions. That change happened after the great, and last, war that ravaged during twenty years 1949-1969 between the USA and Europe on one side, and the African-Asian Colored Union on the other side. That was a war with chemical and electrical weapons, scientifically organized. |
| La junaj geedzoj feliĉe ne travivis tiun teruran periodon: ili ja apartenis al la generacio de Ora Epoko, kiam militoj ne plu okazis. Tio estis epoko de ideala respubliko, bazita sur racia sklavo-servo, laŭ la ideoj de Aristotelo kaj Platono. Verdire tiuepokaj sklavoj estis multe pli liberaj kaj kontentaj ol "burĝoj" de malnovaj regnoj, kie ĉiuj suferis pro la absurda burokratismo kaj socia anarkio. Tio estis io simila al la organizo de abeloj kaj formikoj, kie ĉiu kasto estas korpe kaj anime adaptita al sia rolo en la komuna organismo. Nelidi kaj Tubson apartenis al aristokrata kasto, kaj pro tio ili havis la liberecon vojaĝi tra kontinentoj. | The young spouses had fortunately not experienced that terrible period: for they belonged to the generation of the Golden Epoch, when there were no more wars. That was an epoch of an ideal republic, based on rational slave service, according to the ideas of Aristotle and Plato. Truly the slaves of this epoch were much more free and content than the "bourgeoisie" of ancient reigns, where everyone suffered from the absurd bureaucracy and social anarchy. That was somewhat similar to the organisation of bees and ants, where every caste was physically and spiritually adapted to its role in the common organism. Nelidi and Tubson belonged to the aristocratic caste, and therefore had the liberty to travel through continents. |
| Je la dua posttagmeze la junaj geedzoj forlasis Oslon en luksa aero-boato, por komenci sian unuan kunan vojaĝon, kaj sian novan komunan vivon. Pasis jaroj. La familio Nelidi-Tubson prosperas, en Suda Savojo, kie la geedzoj trovis laboron en frukto-plantacio. Kvar sanaj buboj agrabligas ilian hejmon. Helpas al ili... Zul Kamerudo, kiu tute ŝanĝis sian karakteron... post pun-laboroj en Groenlando. Li ankaŭ edziĝis, espereble lastafoje, kun negrino, sia samlandanino Kika Borodono, alta kaj muskoloriĉa ino, energie reganta sian nun timeman edzon. | At two o'clock in the afternoon, the two newlyweds left Oslo in a luxurious air-boat, to begin their first journey together, and their new life together. Years passed. The Nelidi-Tubson family prospers, in southern Savoie, where the married couple found work in a fruit plantation. Four healthy babies make their home pleasant. They are assisted by... Zul Kamerudo, who has totally changed his character... after the penal work in Greenland. He's also got married, hopefully for the last time, with a black woman, Kika Borodono, a tall, musculous country-woman of his, who energetically reigned over her now timid husband. |

Kaj tiel la tuta hejmanaro estas kontenta. | In the winters Tubson enjoys the slight frosts, which remind him of his home, while his wife warms herself at the heater, together with the black couple. In the summers Tubson searches refreshment on the snow-covered Alps, while the other family members let themselves be baked by the sun. And in this way, the entire household is content. |
